An organized mom is a happy mom! Yes!
You wouldn’t know this by looking around my house, but disorganization is horribly distracting to me. Like, really eats at me. I find myself thinking about what needs to be put away or organized while I should be working! This is really bad for business!
My foyer drives me batty
The space I want to talk about right now is my foyer. It’s basically out of sight, so why does it bother me so much? Easy – I walk through it several times a day!! And it just sticks in my mind that I need to clean it up! It’s mostly just shoes, coats, sweatshirts, and backpacks. Why is it so distracting?!
I have this idea. I’m going to do a few quick and easy updates that should make a huge difference.
Here’s the before:

Foyer that drives me batty!
The plan
I’m going to get a 3-cube cubby to lay in front of the wall on the left side, basically where all of the shoes are. At first, I was concerned that it would be too much in the way of the walkway. But think about it, we don’t walk on top of the shoes, so it shouldn’t be in the way!
And it won’t be attached to the wall so we can move it if we need to bring in something large (like the day I’m lucky enough to get a king-sized bed😂).
I’m also going to add hooks just above the cubby so that the kids can hang their coats, sweatshirts, and backpacks. Yay! I’m so excited now that I’ve thought of this plan that it’s hard to not think about it – EVERY SINGLE TIME IN WALK THROUGH THERE!
The list
Here’s what I need to get. The cubby, cube bins, and hooks.
- The bins: This is easy for me because I sell Thirty-One and we have really nice cubes that fit perfectly inside many of the cubbies that are for sale. I’m going to get what’s called the Your Way Cube. I’m not sure yet if I’ll get them embroidered with the kid’s names. Here’s a link to see the product I’m talking about. It has a clear panel on one side so you can see inside. The opposite side is where the names will go if I decide to embroider them.
- Bin alternative: you can get something less expensive from Amazon or Target. But you won’t be able to get embroidery and the quality might not be as nice. I actually like this one quite a bit! While I love the product that I sell, I will get what makes the most sense.
- The cubbies: I really like the looks of this one from Better Homes and Gardens. I was envisioning just getting a 3-cube shelf that can lay on its side; something like this. But when you get into Amazon and start looking, I mean, the bench is the look I want! Of course, it’s more expensive. So maybe I’ll go with a nice bench and the less expensive bins. On the other hand, I wasn’t worried about this purchase because I know we can use the 3-cube shelf in many other places if this doesn’t work out. But a bench is definitely a bench. Uggg decisions!
- The hooks: I was thinking 2 hooks per kid. I imagined this would be 3 individual 2-hook mounts. I might go with 3 of these instead so each kiddo will get 3 hooks. That actually will work well. I just need to decide if the hook finish goes with everything else, or at least in the direction I want to move towards.
Time to take action
We moved into our house just over a year ago. It’s my dad’s house, which he designed and built in 1986. It’s quite dated, as you can see by the linoleum floor in the foyer. There’s a lot of natural wood throughout. Although not much has been updated, EVER, we have been slow to jump into changes. Because, you know, one thing leads to another!
But I feel like this little foyer makeover will be really nice. It will certainly clean up this space that drives me crazy!
I’ll add the after photos when it’s done! I would love to hear what you think, or take your vote on items!
